Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that Zach Whitlock has committed to Lakehead for the upcoming school year.

The 511, 215-pound forward from Taymouth, New Brunswick began his Junior career with the Gatineau Olympiques and Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior League before playing the next four years with the Woodstock Slammers of the Maritime Hockey League.

Whitlocks most productive year in Woodstock came in 2013-14 when he tallied 54 points in 52 games to finish third in team scoring as an 18-year-old playing alongside current Thunderwolves Jake Wright and E.J. Faust.

Zach missed most of the following season while undergoing treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma, but came back strong in 2015-16, recording 42 points in 47 games.

Wolves Head Coach Bill McDonald is excited to have Whitlock join the team. Zach is a gritty player who goes to the hard areas of the ice which creates more offensive chances, plus he has the will to win, McDonald said. What hes done to get through a rough part of his life is simply amazing to me, and it shows the character and determination that he has. I cant wait to have him here for training camp.

Whitlock is looking forward to arriving in town later this month. It was an easy decision for me to choose Lakehead University after all the good things Ive heard about both the school and the hockey program, he said. Im extremely excited about this and eager to arrive in Thunder Bay to start this new journey.
