The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team training camp kicked off Sep. 4th and runs through the month of September until the puck drops against the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday, Sep. 28th. There is a huge turnout of players at this years camp; talented veterans, exciting new recruits, and some excellent invite and walk-on players.

New Head Coach Don McKee and his staff will begin this years camp with 22 forwards, 12 defensemen, and four goaltenders all trying to make the roster for the Thunderwolves 2007-08 squad.

Returning from last years team are Chris Whitley and Matti Korhonen in goal, Matt Jacques, Dan Rogers, Drew Kivell, Steve Rawski, Jordan Smith, and Andy Zulyniak on defense, and Mike Wehrstedt, Tobias Whelan, Mark Soares, Matt Maisonneuve, Ryan Maunu, Andrew Brown, Nathan Breukelman, Brad Priestlay, Dan Speer, Shandor Alphonso, Richard Molenaar, and Brock McPherson.

Top recruits coming in are Kyle Moir in goal, Pierre-Marc Guillbault and Mitch Maunu on defense, and Kris Hogg, and Devin Welsh. Scott Dobben, who is redshirting this season, will also be at camp.

Also challenging for roster spots are Kris Koenig in goal, Steve Kapolnas, Kody Mintenko, Josh Allen, and Jordan Smith (freshman) at defense, and Chris Thorpe, ex-Thunderwolves player Jeff Adduono, Konrad Bruetsch, Sean Spenrath, Kristoffer Karlsson, Curtis Sandberg, and Joey Nigro at forward.

The theme of this years camp is The Seven Cs. The Seven Cs are Command (of our responsibilities), Cohesion (Team first), Community (Thunder Bays Team), Commitment (Achieve our objectives), Cooperation (Teamwork), Conditioning (Proper Preparation Produces Perfect Performance), and Communication (Talk the talk and walk the walk).

Coach McKee said he and his staff have prepared a very demanding and thorough camp to get the best out of this large group of talented student-athletes. The coaching staff and I are extremely excited that the training camp is just around the corner. A great deal of planning has gone into the 26 days of this camp that should allow us to select and prepare the best players for a very challenging season. Training camp has the responsibility to prepare players for the season and allow the coaches to evaluate the best talent possible to put out on the ice for the Thunderwolves. Our camp theme is the Seven Cs and these actions will come alive as the players live through them throughout the camp.

Coach McKee said he extends a warm welcome to all Thunderwolves' fans and the media to attend select on-ice Training Camp scrimmages and training which will be held at the Tournament Centre and the Fort William Gardens beginning on Sep. 4 from 2-4 pm.
