The No. 6 Lakehead Thunderwolves skated to a 4-4 tie with the Guelph Gryphons Saturday afternoon at the Gryphons Centre. The Thunderwolves OUA record goes to 12-6-1 OUA (20-14-2-1 overall) while Guelph's OUA mark now stands at 6-8-4-1 (7-11-4-1 overall). Lakehead outshot Guelph 41-32 in the game.
Joel Scherban, Jeff Richards, Mike Wehrstedt, and Andrew Brown scored for Lakehead with Erik Lodge recording two assists. Scott Rozendal led the Gryphons with two goals while Darrell Cowen and Steve Morris added singles.
The Gryphons played solid hockey in the first two periods and Guelph built up a 2-0 lead which Lakehead tied up in the second. Guelph quickly struck for two goals late in the second and headed into the third again with a two-goal lead. Lakehead stormed the Gryphons in the third and tied up the game. Lakehead's Wehrstedt seemd to give the Thunderwolves a late 5-4 as it was signalled by the linesman near the Guelph net but the goal judge did not flash the red light so the referee disallowed it. Guelph goaltender Ken Ritson played a strong game for the Gryphons making a lot of key saves throughout the game.
Sunday's game starts at 2:00 pm and can be heard live on 580 CKPR AM in Thunder Bay and online at www.ckpr.com with Bryan Wyatt and Chris Prystanski calling all the action.
