The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team finally found their offense as they skated to a 6-1 win over the visiting Windsor Lancers Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The Wolves had been having trouble finding their scoring touch so far this season but Saturday they had a balanced attack with six different players hitting the scoresheet. Scoring for the Wolves were Kalvin Sagert, Arron Alphonso, Dan Speer, Brad Priestlay, Kris Hogg, and Shandor Alphonso. Sagert and Arron Alphonso also notched an assisteach.
Priestlay'sgoal came on a penlty shot after he was hooked down on a breakaway and then collided with Windsor netminder Jim Watt; resulting in a skirmish and then Priestlay's penalty shot tally. Windsors tally came from Shayne Taylor; who had a big weekend scoring three of the Lancers four weekend goals.
The score was 1-1 after the first period but Lakehead exploded for four goals in the second to take control of the game.
The win puts Lakeheads record at 1-1 in OUA play and 3-4 overall. Windsors OUA mark also is 1-1 and also 3-4 overall.
Lakehead outshot Windsor 30-16 on the night. Lakehead netminder and last years OUA MVP Chris Whitley earned the win (1-0) and looked sharp again when called upon. His last regular season loss came against the Western Mustangs on Feb. 9, 2007.
