The Lakehead Thunderwolves defeated the Queens Golden Gaels 6-2 Friday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay. Lakehead Captain Jeff Richards led the way with 2 goals and an assist while Richard Molenaar added a goal and an assist. Lakehead singles came from Ryan Maunu, Jarryd Brend, and Dan Speer. Freshman Mark Soares added 2 assists.
Queens goals came from Cameron Chapman and Blake Pronk.
Lakehead now has a 8-2-1 OUA record (10-5-1 overall) and Queens goes to 1-7-3 in conference play and 3-8-5 overall.
The Thunderwolves had the edge in play for a lot of the game but Queens had quite a few dangerous scoring opportunities. Chris Whitley won his seventh game of the season; turning aside 25 Queens shots. Queens netminder Ryan Gibb turned aside 34 of 40 Lakehead shots.
Lakehead led 1-0 after the first and 4-0 after the second. Queens got two goals early in the third to make the game close but the Wolves potted two more to put the W in the win column.
