Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey Head Coach Don McKee and his coaching staff are very proud to announce the Wolves assistant captains for the 2008-09 season.
Fifth year senior Andrew Brown returns for his second season as team captain and he will be supported by fifth year senior Drew Kivell, fith year senior Tobias Whelan, junior defenseman Jordan C. Smith, and senior Scott Dobben. Kivell and Whelan were assistant captains last year while Smith and Dobben are new to the post.
McKee felt that the leadership provided by Brown, Whelan, and Kivell last year was a key to the teams successes; recording the best record in the OUA last season and building the team to a No. 3 ranking.
McKee also believes that their maturity, leadership, commitment, and passion for the game will make these five individuals the right leaders for the Wolves this season as they work towards the national championships hosted by Lakehead at the end of March.
Whelan (former OUA First Team All Star) has provided scoring and leadership to the Wolves for four seasons and Kivell has been a defensive rock for the Wolves also for four seasons. Smith was an OUA First Team All Star and CIS First Team All Canadian last year and had quickly developed into a team leader while Dobben brings maturity gained from his time in the pro ranks.
Captain Brown is known for his hustle, determination, and leadership both on and off the ice and he has represented the Wolves very well as an ambassador for the program in his first four years.
Coach McKee and his staff are confident that they have selected the right leadership group for the Wolves to lead them to a successful season this year.
