Male: Chris Whitley: Mens Hockey

Whitley displayed nerves of steel as he led the Wolves to two consecutive overtime shootout wins over the No. 7 Western Mustangs. Whitley stopped 57 Western shots (31 of 32 Friday and 26 of 29 Saturday) in the two games and allowed only five goals in two games to the top offense in the OUA. The senior General Arts student from Oshawa, Ontario also was cool as ice in the two OT shootouts; stopping all three Western OTS shots in Fridays win and seven of eight in Saturdays Sudden Death OTS win.

Whitleys weekend stats were a 2-0 record, GAA of 2.5, and SV% of .934 in the two game series against the top offense in the OUA. Whitley has a 4-0 OUA record so far this season; a GAA of 1.92 and a SV% of .934. The wins put the Thunderwolves into a first place tie with the Mustangs with 12 points apiece in the very tough OUA Far West Division. Lakehead has one more win than Western and a game in hand however.

Female: Emma Brightwell: Womens Wrestling

The freshman Outdoor Recreation student from Guelph, continued to show her promise as she took gold in the 72kg weight class at the McMaster Invitational Meet in Hamilton, Ontario on Sunday.

Brightwells gold medal was very noteworthy as she defeated a very strong opponent in the final in Katie Crouch of the United States Olympic Olympic Education Centre; based at the University of Northern Michigan in Marquette, Michigan.
