The Lakehead Thunderwolves will host the Guelph Gryphons for a pair of games at the Fort William Gardens this weekend, with the opening face-off set for 7:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday nights. These will be the Wolves last home games until the Christmas Challenge on December 29-30.
The Matchup
Lakehead: 6-4-1 conference record, 6-8-1 overall, 4th place in the OUA West Division.
Guelph: 5-7-0 conference record, 7-10-0 overall, 7th place in the OUA West Division.
Last Time Out
Lakehead swept the Royal Military College Paladins in Kingston last weekend in two low-scoring games. After a last-minute goal clinched a 2-1 victory on Friday night, the Wolves shut out RMC 1-0 the following evening.
Guelph lost a pair of road contests as the Gryphons were edged 3-2 at Queens on Friday, and then fell 3-1 to Ontario Tech on Saturday.
Series History
Lakehead has dominated Guelph in the all-time series between the two teams with a record of 33-9-2 versus the Gryphons.
Lakehead hosted Guelph last December in the Christmas Challenge and swept the Gryphons by scores of 4-2 and 6-4.
The Wolves played at Guelph last February and split the weekend series. After losing 6-2 in the Friday game, Lakehead responded with a 2-1 overtime win in the Saturday rematch.
Green is Money
Sophomore goalie Devin Green has been money in the Wolves net as of late, allowing only three goals against in his previous three starts, and the Calgary, Alberta native recorded the first shutout of his U Sports career last Saturday.
Teddy Bear Toss Friday
Friday night is the Dufresne Furniture teddy bear toss, where fans can bring a new teddy bear to the game and throw it onto the ice when the Wolves score their first goal. All teddy bears collected will be donated to several local childrens charities.
About the Gryphons
Guelph currently sits in seventh-place in the ten-team OUA West Division, but just three points behind the fourth-place Thunderwolves.
Forwards Robert Lepine, Marc Stevens and Seth Swenson are Guelphs top scoring threats, while rearguards MacKenzie Nichol and Mark Raycroft lead the defensive corps. Goalie Scott Stajcer has handled the bulk of the load in the Gryphons net so far this season.
