The Lakehead Thunderwolves will be playing on home ice again this weekend with a two-game series versus the Toronto Varsity Blues.  The opening face-off is set for 7:00 pm at the Fort William Gardens on both Friday and Saturday nights.

The Matchup

Lakehead: 3-3-1 OUA (3rd place West Division) 3-5-1 overall

Toronto: 3-2-0 OUA (4th place West Division) 6-4-0 overall

Recent Results

The Thunderwolves collected one point in the standings after a 3-2 overtime loss to Windsor at home last Saturday.  The previous evening, Lakehead let a 3-1 lead slip away and fell 5-3 to the Lancers.

Toronto played just one game last weekend, a 6-5 overtime win at home over cross-town rival Ryerson.

Series History

Toronto was originally in the OUA East but moved over to the West Division several years ago, but the Varsity Blues don’t have quite as much history with the Thunderwolves as do some other long-time division rivals.

Lakehead holds a distinct edge in the all-time series between the two teams with a record of 19-5-2 against the Varsity Blues.

The Thunderwolves played two games at Toronto last November, sweeping the Blues by scores of 5-1 and 5-4, with the latter contest decided in overtime.

The Big Three – Plus One

Most of Lakehead’s scoring punch has been provided by the trio of Josh Laframboise (9 points), Tomas Soustal and Daniel Del Paggio (8 points each).

Freshman defenceman Kyle Auger has stepped right in and contributed 7 points from the back end.

Double Header Saturday

Saturday’s ticket is good for two games that day, as the L.U. Women’s Club Hockey team will take on the Confederation College Women’s Club team on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.

About the Varsity Blues

Three sophomores pace Toronto’s scoring attack with David Thomson, Nathan Hudgin and Joey Manchurek leading the way.  Freshman forward Kyle Potts has gotten off to a good start as well.

Goalie Alex Bishop has seen most of the action in the Varsity Blues’ net so far this season.
