The second day of T Bay Tel Varsity Cup CIS-NCAA mens university hockey action saw the Calgary Dinos score an impressive 6-1 win over the Lake Superior State Lakers in the afternoon game while the St. FX X-Men won their second OT game of the tourney with a 3-2 win over the host Lakehead Thunderwolves.
After two days of tourney action, St. FX has a 2-0 mark, Calgary and Lake State are 1-1, while Lakehead is 0-2. However, St. FX has 4 points on two wins, Calgary has 3 points on a win and an OT loss, Lake State has 2 points on one win, and Lakehead has 1 point on an OT loss.
That makes Day 3 of the tournament very interesting and puts St. FX in control of their own fate. They play Lake State in the afternoon game and if the X-Men win; they are in the final on Saturday afternoon. Lake State must win for a chance to get in the finals. A win for the Lakers would give both them and St. FX a 2-1 mark and they would wait for the final result between Lakehead and Calgary. In this scenario; if Calgary defeated Lakehead, the Dinos would go through on 5 points and they would then play the Lakers who would go through based on head-to-head against X.
The host Thunderwolves have the hardest road to get to the final. They would have to defeat Calgary in regulation time and also hope that St. FX defeated Lake State in the afternoon game. If this happened, Lakehead would play St. FX in the final and go through instead of Calgary; based upon head-to-head. However, if Lakehead defeated Calgary in OT; the Dinos would go through on four points. Needless to say; Day 3 of the T Bay Varsity Cup will be very interesting.
