Lakeheads Mark Soares and Brock McPherson had record breaking nights as they led their No. 6 Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team to an 8-1 win over the Windsor Lancers Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay. Soares scored five consecutive goals to set the Lakehead single game goal scoring record while McPherson notched six consecutive assists to set the Lakehead single game assists mark and tie the single game points mark.
Lakeheads other goals came from Richard Molenaar, Andrew Brown, and Dan Speer. Speer also added four assists to have a 5-point night of his own. Lakeheads SSM Line of Speer, Soares, and McPherson was dominant this weekend. Soares scored a goal and added 3 assists in Fridays 9-0 win for a weekend total of 6 goals and 3 assists; McPherson had a goal and three assists in Fridays win for a weekend total of 1 goal and 9 assists; while Speer had two assists Friday for a weekend total of 1 goal and 6 assists. Kris Hogg also kept his offense rolling adding 4 assists on the weekend and line-mate captain Andrew Brown added three goals on the weekend.

The Wolves go to 16-3-1 in OUA play (20-7-1 overall) while Windsor is now 4-17-1 in conference action. The win also puts Lakehead in first in the brutally tough OUA Far West Division for now; two points ahead of Laurier and three ahead of both Waterloo and Western.
Lakehead freshman netminder Kyle Moir had a solid night in the Wolves goal, making a few excellent saves on the night and raised his record to 5-3-1 in OUA play. Windsors Jim Watt (4-14-0) took the loss; but made a lot of great saves in the course of the game.
Lakehead outshot Windsor 40-21 on the night. Lakehead was 2-5 on the powerplay while Windsor went 0-5. The Lancers played a much better game than Friday but the Wolves began to pull away in the second and the Soares, Speer, McPherson connection put the game away.
Lakeheads fourth line of Brad Priestlay, Matt Maisonneuve, and Richard Molenaar also played well and the D-Corps as a whole were sharp. Jordan C. Smith and Mitch Maunu played very well as did Dan Rogers and Andy Zulyniak.
Lakehead hits the road next weekend for a grueling three-games-in-three-days road trip; playing Waterloo Friday and Saturday and Toronto on Sunday.
