Jordan Smith and Mike Quesnele took home the major awards at the annual Lakehead University Athletics banquet on Monday night. Both players won a team award as well as prestigious Lakehead University Athletics trophies.
Smith, a fifth-year senior from Sault St. Marie, ON, won both the team MVP award as well asthe Hank Akervall Memorial award given to the Lakehead student athlete that best demonstrates excellence in athletics and outstanding community involvement.
Mike Quesnele, also from The Soo, won the freshman of the year awards for both the hockey team and for all of Lakehead University Athletics.
Other award winners from the hockey team were Mitch Maunu (Thunder Bay, ON) for best defensive player, Andrew Wilkins (Pickering, ON) for best work ethic, and Mike Thibert (Thunder Bay, ON) for most improved player.
