The Lakehead University Thunderwolves hockey team and Head Coach Joel Scherban are pleased to announce the addition of Mike Busniuk to the Wolves coaching staff. Busniuk will join current coaches Darrin Nicholas, Dan Bissonnette, Bob Bodak, Colin Zulianello and Steve Bailot to round out Scherbans team of assistants.
A Thunder Bay native, Busniuk has been an assistant coach in the AHL for the past 15 years, the last 6 of which were with the Binghampton Senators. He has also previously been a head coach in both the WHL and the UHL.
After playing 3 seasons of NCAA hockey for the Denver Pioneers, Busniuk was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1971. He went on to play 8 years in the AHL, and 2 more seasons in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers where he reached the Stanley Cup finals in 1980.
Scherban says I look forward to once again working with Darrin, Dan, Bob, Colin and Steve. The passion and dedication they have given Thunderwolves hockey over the years is unrivaled. He adds I am also excited to work with Mike, as he brings and incredible amount of knowledge and experience from his 15 seasons as an assistant coach in the AHL, and is a nice addition to our coaching staff.
