Lakehead forward Mark Soares scored the overtime winner at 0:37 as the Thunderwolves edged the Brock Badgers 3-2, Saturday night at St. Catharines, Ontario. With the win, No. 8 Lakehead (19-7-2) clinches the third seed in the OUA West divisional playoffs and will face the York Lions in the opening round. Brock (9-17-2) finishes four points out of the playoffs in last place in the West.
Lakeheads other goals came courtesy of fifth-year senior Dan Speer (Thunder Bay) and Matt Caria (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) and were both powerplay markers. Caria added an assist for his eighth multi-point night of the season.
Steve Miller and Ryan Allen both had one goal and one assist to lead the hosts offensive effort.
Junior netminder Kyle Moir (Calgary) earned the win with 19 stops while Brocks Jordan Bent made 26 saves in the loss.
