
For the first time in 10 years the Thunderwolves and the Mustangs will meet in the OUA playoffs.
The last time these teams met in the playoffs was in 2015 with Lakehead taking that 1st round series 2-0 and Head Coach Andrew Wilkins was the teams assistant coach under then Head Coach Bill MacDonald.
After this passed weekend's season closing series with Western being a playoff preview it should be an exciting series if these games were any indication.
In the previoous 7 playoff series the Wolves and Mustangs played, Lakehead has won 6 of them and are also 7-0 at home in those series. Also of note is that Lakehead has swept 3 of the 7 series with Western as well.. Overall the Wolves are 13-5 in the 18 playoff meetings.The Wolves have out scored the Mustangs 63-54 in those meetings.
The longest playoff game in Thunderwolves history was against the Mustangs back in the 2004 playoffs in the 2nd round as it went to quadruple overtime and last regulation included 122 minutes and 40 seconds (62 minutes and 40 seconds of overtime) with the Wolves coming out on top 5-4 with Erik Lodge getting the winner on the powerplay.
Game one will be played at the Tournamnent Center which will the first time that the team has played out their in there 23 year history(Not counting the Pandemic cancelled season). So it will be an adjustment for them to make for one night.
Game time for game one on Wednesday at the Tournament Center is 7:30pm not the usual 7pm start time. the game can be viewed on OUA TV. Come out and support your Lakehead Thunderwolves. Hear the Howl!
