Six unanswered Western Mustangs goals proved too tough to overcome as the Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team lost 8-3, Saturday night at the Thompson Arena in London, Ontario. With the loss, CIS No. 10 Lakehead drops to 11-5-2 and are in fourth place in the OUA West, while first place No. 3 Western extends their conference winning streak to 16 games and are 16-2-0.

Keaton Turkiewicz led the UWO onslaught with two goals and one assists while six other Mustangs scored including Kevin Baker and Aaron Snow who each added two assists.

Lakeheads goals came courtesy of Scott Dobben, Andrew Wilkins and Ryan McDonald who extended his goal-scoring streak through his first four games with the team.

Western dominated the shots department for a second straight night, peppering Wolves goalies Kyle Moir and Alex Dupuis with a combined 46 shots with Lakehead challenging Stangs netminder Keyvan Hunt with 32 shots.

Special teams played a major role in Westerns win as the hosts went 4-13 on the powerplay with all three of their first period goals coming with the man advantage. Lakehead went 2-11 on the PP.

Lakehead will be back at home next weekend for Friday and Saturday games with the Windsor Lancers and the Fort William Gardens.
