Lakehead swept at Ontario Tech

The Lakehead Thunderwolves dropped their second game in a row by falling 3-1 to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at the Campus Ice Centre in Oshawa Saturday night.

It was also the second night in a row that the Wolves had trouble scoring on Ridgebacks netminder Colin Dzijacky.

Ontario Techs Matt Paul scored the only goal of the first period when he fired the puck past Lakehead goalie Jeff Bosch just 5:50 into the game.

The Wolves narrowly outshot the Ridgebacks 10-9 in the opening stanza.

It looked as though the second period would remain scoreless, but Nate Milton gave Ontario Tech a 2-0 lead when he found the back of the net with only 10 seconds remaining on the clock.

Shots on goal were 13-12 in favor of the Ridgebacks in the middle period.

Paul scored his second goal of the game for the Ridgebacks at 5:54 of the third period to widen the lead to 3-0 for Ontario Tech.

After being stymied for nearly six periods, The Wolves finally solved Dzijacky at 14:56 of the final frame on an unassisted marker by Keith Grondin to round out the scoring at 3-1.

Lakehead outshot the Ridgebacks 13-11 in the third period and 35-33 on the game.

The loss drops the Wolves OUA record to 9-3 andputsthem in a three-way tie forsecond place in the West Division with Windsor and Ryerson, with al three teams trailing first-place Toronto by a single point. But Lakehead holds a game in hand over Windsor and Ryerson, and two games in hand over Toronto.

The Wolves will be on the road again next weekend when they take on the York Lions in Lakeheads last games before the Christmas exams break.
