The Lakehead Thunderwolves need a strong 3rd period to comeback and defeat Northland in front of 1103 fans.
It was a relatively quiet first period with both teams garnering multiple scoring attempts. It wasn't until late in the period that Jordan King would break the ice at 17:04 when he roofed a pass on the backhand from Colin Van Den Hurk over Northland's Vicktor Wennberg to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
At 19:18 of the 1st Jack Miles was brought down on a breakaway by Cameron Coutre and was awarded a penalty shot. On the Penalty Shot Mles was stopped by Wennberg. The Wolves out shot Northland 13-6 in the period
In the 2nd Northland would get on the board twice to take the lead. First goal at 2:29 was scored by Marshall Nikitin from the slot on as pass from Daniel Chartrand. Then at 17:32 Nikitin struck for his 2nd of the game when he jumps on a rebound and beats Sophomore goaltender Max Wright. Northland outshot Lakehead 11-9 in the period.
In the 3rd period the Thunderwolves came out with purpose and led by their captain Jordan King who deflected Dexter Kuczek's shot from the top of the left circle past Wennberg for his 2nd of the game to tie it at two. A little over 2:30 later Spencer Blackwell dug the puck out of a scramble at the right side of the net and wrapped it around on the left side to give the Wolves the 3-2 lead. Jack Miles picked a pass off at the Wolves blueline a streaked down the right boards and unleashed a wrist shot that found its way through the five hole on Wennberg at 1:46 to put the Wolves up 4-2.
Lakehead Sophomore netminder Max Wright closed the door on Northland in the 3rd period stopping all 11 shots he faced to help the Thunderwolves secure the 4-2 win.
Lakehead outshot Northland 35-28 in the game.
