Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that defenceman Tyler Kunz is the programs first commitment of the 2015 recruiting class.

The 511, 190 pound native of Whitecourt, Alberta played most of his four years of junior hockey in the AJHL, primarily with the Lloydminster Bobcats after spending one season with the Spruce Grove Saints. Kunz finished up his junior career with stops in Prince George and West Kelowna of the BCHL.

His best season was the 2014-15 campaign when he scored 45 points in 58 games played between Lloydminster, Prince George and West Kelowna.

Kunz was left with a strong impression of Lakehead after his recruiting visit in early April. I had the privilege to visit Thunder Bay a few weeks ago and was very excited once I got to see the campus and the city, Tyler said. I think it will be a great fit for me both for my education and my hockey career, and I couldn't be more thrilled about the opportunities coming my way as a future member of the Thunderwolves. It was a long road to get here, and Id like to thank my parents, teammates, coaches and everyone else who helped me along the way.

Wolves Head Coach Bill McDonald is also thankful to have Kunz in the fold. Were pleased to have Tyler join our defence corps for the upcoming season, McDonald said. Hes not only an excellent defenceman and a complete player, but Tyler is also a quality individual. Im looking forward to have him play for us.
