Lakehead Thunderwolves punch their ticket to the playoffs with a big 2-1 victory over the Western Mustangs in front of 2876 fans.
For the first time since the 2019-20 season the Thunderwolves are headed to the playoffs.
Griffen Fox would get the Wolves on the board just past the midway point of the 1st period finishing off a pass from Josh Van Unen past Mustangs Jack McNaughton.
The second period would see plenty of scoring opportunities for both teams but Christian Cicigoi and McNaughton would shut the door and keep the score 1-0 heading to the 3rd.
Joe Mack would strike at the 8:12 mark of the period to up the lead to 2-0 but Western would answer right back :50 later when Jack York would beat Cicigoi to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Mustangs would get a late powerplay and have a 6 on 4 advantage with the goalie out and would get a couple chances but the Lakehead defence would stand strong and the Wolves would pick up the 2-1 win.

Lakehead heads on the road for the final time in the regular season to face the York Lions on Friday night with game time 7:15 and then off to St Catherines to face the red hot Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon with game time 2pm.
The Wolves return home to conclude the regular season on Thursday Februrary 9th against the Windsor Lancers with game time at 7pm.
