Lakehead and Ryerson combined for sixteen goals in a wild affair with Ryerson coming out on top 9-7 and with the loss the Thunderwolves need to win on Saturday night to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Tyler Jette would open the scoring in the first period wiring a point shot past Ryerson netminder Garret Forrest. This is Jettes’ first career goal with the Thunderwolves.
Ryerson’s Chris Playfair would answer back taking a pass from Kyle Bollers and dancing around Max Wright and tucked the puck into the empty net to tie the game up at one.
Lakehead’s Joe Mack would respond tipping a beautiful pass from Kyle Auger past Forrest to give Lakehead the lead once again 2-1.
Lakehead would have a great chance near the end of the period getting a 3 on 2 break but Ben Badalamenti would misfire on a Kevin Stiles pass and the Wolves would head into the break with the lead.
The second period was an high scoring period as the teams would combine for a total of six goals.
Ryerson’s Chris Playfair would strike for his second of the game beating Wright with a wrist shot to tie the game up at two.
Shortly after Lakehead’s Stephen Fox picks up the puck at his own blue line and breaks in on a breakaway and beats Garrett Forrest easily to put Lakehead ahead by one.
Ryerson would then score the next three goals as Shankar, Barwell and Commisso would all find the back of the net to give Ryerson a 5-3 lead.
Lakehead’s Kyle Auger would bring the Wolves within one late in the frame beating Forrest on a bad angle for his first of the year.
The third period would eclipse the second for goals as both teams combined for seven goals.
Ryerson’s Playfair would complete the hattrick 1:15 in to the period on a pass from Shankar to put the Rams up by two.
Lakehead would answer back as Stephen Fox would get his second of the game and Spencer Blackwell would get his first of two to tie the game 6-6.
Kyle Bollers would one time a pass past wright to give Ryerson the lead again 7-6.
Lakehead’s Blackwell would strike for his second of the game on the powerplay tipping in a pass from Kevin Stiles to knot the game up once again at seven.
Ryerson would take the lead when Jesse Barwell would get his second of the night with a wrist shot from the slot.
Ryerson would seal the game with five seconds to go as Kyler Bollers would get his second of the night into the empty net.
Lakehead plays there final game of the regular season Saturday night against the Ryerson Rams at 7:15pm.
