Lakehead drops season opener to the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-1

The opening stanza saw both teams had to fight for every inch on ice in what was a defensive low shooting period. It also saw some physicallity by both teams but neither could get on the board.

In the second the Wolves would finally beat Toronto netminder Sebastian Resar when Spencer Blackwell would wire a shot off the crossbar and it bounced just behind the goal line. It took the referee a few moments to make the goal signal as he wanted to make sure it had crossed the line first.

Toronto would answer a bit later when Jullian Recine would tip a high shot past Cicigoi to tie up the game.

Billy Moskal would put the Blues ahead with another tip in goal that fooled Christian Cicigoi late in the period.

Dylan Wightman would add to the Blues lead banging in a rebound in front of the net with ten seconds remaining in the period.

In the third Jacob King would put the game out of reach with an unassisted shorthanded goal past Cicigoi.

Lakehead would out shoot Toronto 37-30
