Lakehead got behind early and the Gryphons won 5-1 in the annual Frost Mug game.

Guelph came out at the drop of the puck and did not waste time getting on the board as it took them only 1:03 to score when Hunter Brazier would slide past Wright and tuck it home.

Lakehead got a few chances after falling behind but Guelph netminder Tanner Wickware would shut the door.

Guelph would strike again mid period when Lakehead would turn the puck over in their own end and Hunter Brazier would get the puck to Nolan De Gurse who would beat Max Wright to up the lead to 2-0.

Guelph's third goal of the period would come on the powerplay from Jason Camp as his shot would deflect off of the leg of a Lakehead defender and past Wright.

Lakehead would finally solve Wickware in the second period on 4 on 4 when Tyler Ho would finish a pass from Spencer Blackwell and make no mistake burying glove side.

But Guelph would answer back just past the midway point of the period when Jonah De Simone and Luke Kutkevicious would break in on a 2 on 1 and Kutkevicious would roof the pass from De Simone to restore the 3 goal lead.

Lakehead would control the play in the 3rd period outshooting Guelph 12-2 but could not beat Wickware. Tempers would flare up in the third as well with the game turning chippy and a steady parade to the sin bin.

Guelph would seal the game late with an empty net goal by Jonah De Simone.

3 Stars of the Game:

1. Tanner Wickware Guelph
2. Nolan DeGurse Guelph

Lakehead will conclude the series with Guelph Friday night at 7:30pm.
