Lakehead and Western put on a show for the 2478 fans at the Gardens.
In what proved to be a tight low scoring game would see Lakehead edge out the Mustangs.
The first period would see both teams get scoring chances but it would be Lakehead breaking the ice when Nicolas DeGrazia would snap home a pass off of the faceoff from Keighan Gerrie.
That would be all the scoring in the first with Lakehead out shooting Western 14-8.
The second would again see both teams getting chances with play lasting almost half the period without a whistle before Western would draw even. Owen Saye would come down the wing and wrist a shot past Lakehead netminder Christian Cicigoi.
Western would out shoot Lakehead 12-9 in the period.
The third period would see a little more action with Lakehead breaking the deadlock just under two minutes in on a beautiful two on one with Olivier Pouliot tipping home a Joe Mack pass past Mustangs netminder Dylan Myskiw.
The Wolves would keep coming with Dylan Massie knocking in a rebound in close to up the lead to 3-1.
Western would not back down when Noah Danielson would bring them within one 2 minutes later.
There would be some rough stuff between the two teams late in the period which would lead to some cool down time in the box for Dylan Massie and Christiano Aiello.
Lakehead would hold off a late Western charge to send the fans home happy.
Western would out shoot Lakehead 12-9 in the period. Lakehead and Western would finish with 32 shots each.
