Lakehead survived a scare as they defeated the Waterloo Warriors 3-2 in a shootout.
Lakeahead and Waterloo came ready for this game as both teams played very tight defensively in the first period and fended off each others scoring chances to skate into the break with zeros on the board.
Lakehead would break the deadlock very quickly into the 2nd period with Richard Whittaker getting a great chance to score but was stopped but Spencer Blackwell was Johnny on the spot and picked up the rebound and deposited it into the back of the net past Matt Onuska.
Lakeahead would strike again a little over three minutes later on the powerplay as Jack Cook would do a great job keeping the puck in the zone and Spencer Blackwell would get it to the net and Nicholas De Grazia would cleanup the rebound to increase the lead to 2-0.
Waterloo would get a powerplay of their own and would make the best of it as Tate Popple would take a feed from Adamo Santia and flip it past Christian Cicigoi to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the waining moments of the 3rd the Warriors would pull the goalie and turn a 4 on 4 into a 5 on 4 and they would tie the game with a tip in by Adamo Santia right in front of the net to send the game to overtime.
In overtime both teams would get a few chances but they could not find the twine and the game would move to the sudden death shootout to decide the game.
In the Shootout Olivier Pouliot would start for Lakehead and he would snap a wrist shot far side on Onuska to put Lakehead up 1-0. Jaxson Murray of the Warriors would get turned away by Cicigoi. Richard Whittaker would be up next and he would bury his chance 5 hole on Onuska to give Lakehead the 2-0 lead and putting all the pressure on Tate Popple and Christian Cicigoi would turn him aside which would give the Thunderwolves the 3-2 win.
