Lakehead was well prepared for this very tough matchup with the No 2 ranked Concordia Stingers.

The Wolves came out firing and struck early when Justin Paul converts a backhanded pass from Dyan Massie and snaps it by Concordia netminder Nikolas Hurtubise to the deleight of the 2671 fans in attendance. They would have to turn to playing defense as the Stingers would start upping the pressure. The Wolves would do a great job boxing out the Stingers especially on a big penalty kill.

Concordia thought they had tied the game up just before the midway point but the ref would wave it off as it was gloved in.

The Wolves would catch a break when Josh Van Unen would knock the puck away from a Stingers forward at there blue line and Olivier Pouliot would pick it up and ring it of the post but would pick up the rebound as Hurtunise would not know where it was a Pouliot would deposit it into the empty net for a 2-0 lead.

Concordia would come out in the second period and quickly cut the lead to 2-1 when Mikeal Huchette would deposit a pass from Nicholas Girouard in behind Christian Cicigoi.

The Stingers would continue the pressure and the Wolves would continue to play solidly on defense to keep the Stingers at bay. But the Stingers would eventually tie the game up at 2 when Christopher Inniss would wrist a point shot over Cicigoi's left shoulder to the dismay of the fans.

Both teams would then go full defensive mode for the rest of the period and the 3rd period would be no different as the goalies stood on their heads and both teams would not allow each other to set up to get anything going . The game would go to overtime and there were only a couple of opportunities in the period as the defense of both teams would shut each other down.

The game would then advance to the shoot out and Ciciigoi would slam the door on the 3 Stinger shooters. Lakehead's Richard Whittaker would be the hero of the shoot out as he would slip the puck five hole on Hurtubise for the winner to send the fans into a frenzy as the Wolves would win 3-2.
