Lakehead came out of the gate flying but came up short and fell to 0-2 on the season.
It wasn't a lack of pressure or a shortage of scoring chances either as the Wolves out shot York in the first period 17-9 which kept York goalie Brendan Bonello very busy.
Lakehead captain Jordan King had the Wolves best scoring chance in the first with a point blank shot which was turned away by Bonello.
It was the Lions that broke through first on the powerplay when Brendan Browne buried a pass from behind the net from the slot with Weyrick flat on the ice to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
Early in the second Spencer Blackwell put a beauty of a shot past Bonello to tie the game at one but York would answer right back thirty seconds later when Alex Uryga put a shot home thru a crowd to put York back on top 2-1.
In the third frame York would ice the game when Nik Malencia and Brandon Yeamans would find the back of the net to put York up 4-1.
Lakehead and York finish up the three game set Saturday night with gametime 7pm.
