The Laurier Golden Hawks rode the spectacular goaltending of Justin Day to defeat the No. 3 Lakehead Thunderwolves 2-1 in Waterloo, Ont. Sunday Night. Day turned aside 44 Lakehead shots in the win as the Wolves outshot Laurier 45-23. The loss gives Lakehead a final record of 18-4-2 in OUA play and 25-6-3 overall. The win raises Laurier's OUA record to 10-7-3-3. Lakehead ends up in second in the OUA Far West and will open up theirdivisionalsemi-finals on Feb. 25th in Waterloo against the Waterloo Warriors. Laurier will end up third in the OUA Mid West and will go on to playeither Brock or York on Feb. 25th.

Play in the first was fairly even but it was Laurier's BryanKazarianthat scored the only goal at 9:27, assisted by Richard Colwill. Lakehead outshot Laurier 12-9 in the first.

Lakehead dominated play in the second and this is when Day stole the game with his great goaltending, stopping 20 of 21 Thunderwolves shots. Lakehead's only goal of the game came at 10:45 when Matt Kenny was set up nicely by Robert Hillier. The other assist went to Jason Lange. The Wolves outshot the Hawks 21-6 in the second.

Laurier's Richard Colwill scored the game winner at 6:58 of the third when a BryanKazarian shot bounced sharply off theboards behind the Lakehead net right out to Colwill, whodeposited the puckpastsurprised Lakehead netminder Grant McCune. The other assist went to Nick Gibson. The Wolves stages a furious last minute attack on the Hawks goal, but couldn't get the puck past the stingy Day for the equalizer. Lakehead outshot Laurier 12-8 in the third.
