Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey and Head Coach Don McKee are very proud to announce that Andrew Brown will be returning next season for his second year as the Wolves captain.

Brown has been accepted into the Masters program in Geography and Environmental Studies at Lakehead. This past season, the Bancroft, Ontario native captained the Wolves to their best ever regular season record and the third round of the OUA playoffs. He also won the prestigious Hank Akervall Award combining academics, community service, and athletics.

Brown is the third captain in Lakehead Thunderwolves history; following Joel Scherban and Jeff Richards. The assistant captains to support Andrew will not be selected until
the end of the 2008 training camp.

Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden said Browns return is very positive for Wolves hockey. Andrew has proven to be a leader both on and off the ice for Lakehead hockey and he also excels in the classroom and represents the team at many community functions. I am looking for big things from him this year as he leads the team when Lakehead hosts the CIS national championships next March.

Coach Mckee said Brown has proven that he is a leader for the Wolves. Andrew Brown proved to be a strong leader and an excellent role model in his role as captain of the 2007-2008 Thunderwolves. Winning the Hank Akervall award demonstrates Brown's commitment as a captain to go far beyond the dressing room and into the community in his leadership capacity. As we prepare to host the national championship and build a team that can win a national championship; having a captain like Andrew Brown in place, exemplifies the cornerstone we need for a strong foundation and a winning edge.

Brown said he cant wait for the season to begin. Being captain last season was a real honour for me. We look to build on our successful regular season from this season and turn it into playoff success during our national championship run. The opportunity to show the rest of Canada how great Thunder Bay is by hosting the National Championships will be an especially great honour. We will represent Thunder Bay and Lakehead University with a first class attitude and pride.

Brown led the CIS and OUA in game winning goals this past season with eight and finished sixth in overall team scoring with 23 goals and 12 assists in 42 games. He was also sixth in OUA regular season scoring with 20 goals and 6 assists in 28 games and added four points in six playoff games. Brown is currently 10th on the Thunderwolves All Time scoring list with 50 goals and 45 assists in 178 games; a stat that would be much higher had he not unselfishly played defense for a big part of two seasons when injuries depleted Lakeheads d-corps.
