A hat trick by Brock captain Ryan Del Monte carried his Badgers to a 6-5 OTS win over the No. 7 Lakehead Thunderwolves on a blizzardy Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.
Lakehead had strong games from Captain Andrew Brown and Brock McPherson with a pair of goals each. The Wolves other goal came from Matt Maisonneuve.
Del Monte added an assist for the Badgers to record a four-point night and he also scored one of the Brock OTS tallies. Brocks other goals came from JJ Martin and Gary Friesen.
Lakehead netminder Chris Whitley didnt have his best outing; allowing four goals before being replaced by freshman Kyle Moir. Moir played well in relief; only allowing one goal but took the loss in the OT shootout. Brock netminder Matt Harpwood went all the way for the Badgers and made at least 10 excellent saves to deny the Wolves more goals. Shots on goal in regulation and OT were 41-24 Lakehead.
The Wolves showed heart coming back to tie the game three times in the games and then carried the play for most of the second and almost all of the third period; but Harpwood stood tall in the Badgers goal this wintry night in Thunder Bay. The OTS loss gives Lakehead a point and moves their OUA record to 12-3-1 (13-6-1 overall); while Brock goes to 12-4-2 in OUA action.
Brock was 2-6 on the powerplay while Lakehead was 3-9 with the man advantage.
