The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team earned an away split as they defeated the Windsor Lancers 5-3 Saturday night in Windsor.   It was turnabout was fair play as Saturday was Lakehead’s turn to come back from a 3-1 deficit to get the win as the Lancers did on their Friday night OT win.  The Wolves are now 11-4-2-1 in OUA play, 14-11-2-1 overall.   Windsor goes to 8-9 in OUA action and 8-12 overall.

The Wolves were paced by a hat trick from freshman sensation Mark Soares.  Dan Speer had a strong game with a goal and two assists while Lakehead’s other goal came from Richard Molenaar.  Defenseman Steve Rawski contributed a pair of helpers.

Jordie Preston continued his stellar season for the Lancers with 2 goals and an assist while Scott Gibson notched the other Windsor goal.

Shots on goal were 62-57 for Lakehead on the night.  Chris Whitley (9-3-2) earned the win for the Wolves while Reese Kalleitner (8-8) was given the loss in the Windsor goal; though both goaltenders had a very busy night.

Lakehead returns home to the Fort William Gardens next weekend when it will welcome the No. 5 and OUA Far West Division leading Waterloo Warriors for a crucial two-game divisional series.
