LAKEHEAD BLANKS RMC IN GOALTENDING DUEL

The Lakehead Thunderwolves blanked the RMC Paladins 1-0 at the Constantine Arena in Kingston, Ontario on Saturday night.

Just like the previous evening, the game was closely contested with the Wolves coming out on top to earn the weekend sweep.

Lakehead netminder Devin Green continued the outstanding play he has displayed the last two weeks, and recorded his first shutout as a Thunderwolf.  His counterpart Austin Hannaford also played well in the Paladins’ goal.

The Wolves played with a short bench as Carson Dubchak was serving a suspension for a misconduct penalty he received on Friday night, and Justin Sefton was out with an injury.

Although the final score wouldn’t indicate it, both teams had plenty of scoring chances throughout the evening.  But it took until the 1:19 mark of the third period before Dylan Butler broke the deadlock when he deflected a point shot from Tyler Anton past Hannaford, with Linden Springer getting the second assist.

RMC applied the pressure in the latter stages of the game and created a flurry of activity around the Lakehead net, but several brilliant saves by Green held the Paladins at bay.

For the night, Lakehead went 0-for-2 on the power play, while RMC was 0-for-4.

Shots on goal in the game were 27-22 for the Thunderwolves.

Lakehead has won its last three games in a row, improving the Wolves' conference record to 6-4-1.

The Thunderwolves will return home for a pair of games versus the Guelph Gryphons at the Fort William Gardens next weekend.
