Thunderwolves hockey fans will be hoping for better results in two weeks at the CIS Championships after they were dropped 3-1 by the McGill Redmen in the Queen’s Cup, Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay. A sell out crowd of 3,735 were silenced for most of the contest as sophomore winger Andrew Wright (Toronto) scored two goals – including the game winner – for McGill who avenged their 2006 defeat to LU in that year’s OUA Championship game.

McGill’s Evan Vossen (Swift Current, Saskatchewan) scored the team’s other goal while Alexandre Picard-Hooper (Boucherville, Quebec) and Francis Verreault-Paul (Mashteuiatsh, Quebec) added two assists apiece. Goalie Hubert Morin (St-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec) stopped 26 of 27 shots to secure the win.

Lakehead’s lone tally came courtesy of junior forward Kris Hogg (Sicamous, British Columbia) while net minder Alex Dupuis (Thunder Bay) stopped 23 shots but lost his first postseason game, dropping to 6-1 in the extra season.

In the OUA’s other game tonight, UQTR scored three goals between 18:29 and 19:00 of the third period to shock the Western Mustangs 5-4 and secure the conference’s final berth at the Cavendish University Cup which goes March 25-28 at Thunder Bay.
