Overcoming an early two-goal deficit, the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team swept the Guelph Gyphons, with a 4-3 Saturday night win at Guelph, Ontario. The Wolves trailed 3-1 after the first period but tallied three second period goals to come away with the win – their fourth of the season against the Gryphons.

Special teams played a huge role for the Pack, as Andy Zulyniak and Ryan Baird scored the team’s first and last goals of the night - both on the powerplay - while Kris Hogg added a shorthanded marker for good measure. Lakehead also killed off all five of Guelph’s powerplay opportunities, including a Hogg major for checking from behind. Victor Anilane added Lakehead’s other goal, an unassisted marker at even strength.

Alex Magera, Thomas Kiriakou and Tim Priamo each scored for the Gryphons who were shut down against Lakehead after winning four straight entering the weekend.

Kyle Moir got the win in goal, stopping 28 shots in the process, while Scott Van Bommel was handed the loss after stopping 19 of 23 shots for Guelph.

With the win, Lakehead improves to 11-3-2 and closes the first half of their OUA season. They will host the Saskatchewan Huskies in two non-conference games, Friday and Saturday at the Fort William Gardens.
