The CIS No. 5 Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team eight-game OUA and 12-game overall winning streak came to an end Saturday afternoon at the Windsor Arena in Windsor, Ontario as the Wolves were shut out 3-0 by the Windsor Lancers.

Lakehead goes to 16-4-1-1 in OUA play (22-7-1-1 overall) while Windsor is 12-9-0-1 in OUA action and 13-14-0-1 overall.  The Lakehead loss and Windsor win will make the battle for the OUA Far West Division and OUA West Division even more interesting once the smoke clears from all the intra-divisional games this weekend.

Lakehead sophomore netminder Kyle Moir (8-2-1-1) took the loss while Windsor goalie Jim Watt earned his 12th win of the season.  Windsor outshot Lakehead 33-31 in the game.

The Lancers scored a goal in each period and notching the Windsor goals were Mark Thorburn, Josh Gaynor, and Brett Vandehogen.  Thorburn and Vandehogen each added an assist as well.

Both teams’ PK units were effective as Lakehead was 0-5 on the powerplay while Windsor went 0-7.

The Windsor victory means that both teams split in each other’s home arena in this year’s four regular season games.  This is the Wolves second 3-0 shutout loss of the season; losing by the same score to Western on Nov. 31.

Lakehead returns home to Thunder Bay where they will host the powerful Waterloo Warriors next Friday and Saturday nights at the Fort William Gardens in another crucial OUA Far West battle.
