The CIS No. 5 Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team skated to an 8-0 home win over the Ryerson Rams Friday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Lakehead’s regular season mark goes to 14-3-1-1 in OUA record (20-6-1-1 overall); while Ryerson’s record goes to 4-14 in OUA play (6-18 overall).

Lakehead netminder and last year’s OUA MVP Chris Whitley (7-1) earned his second consecutive shutout for the Wolves (and third of the season) and made a couple big stops to preserve the shutout. Brett Gibson (2-11) took the loss for the Rams; allowing 6 goals while Louis George came in relief in the third period and played very well for the Rams; making a number of excellent saves while allowing two goals.  Lakehead outshot Ryerson 51-23 on the night.

Lakehead was led offensively by freshman defenceman Bryan Wilson who scored two goals.  Captain Andrew Brown and defending OUA Scoring Champion Dan Speer each added a goal and two assists.  Brock McPherson had a goal and an assist while single Lakehead markers came from Mark Soares, Arron Alphonso, and Richard Molenaar.

Lakehead was 2-9 on the powerplay while the Wolves PK unit was very solid; stopping Ryerson on all five of their man advantages.

The Molson's Three Stars were:
1) Lakehead: Andrew Brown
2) Lakehead: Bryan Wilson
3) Lakehead: Chris Whitley

The two teams face off again Saturday night at the Gardens with faceoff going at 7:30 pm EST.  Saturday’s game will be videowebcast live with ordering info available at http://events.news-cast.com/events/Lakehead  Viewers will need hi speed internet and Windows Media Player to watch the broadcasts.  CKDR Dryden Radio Sports Director Mike Ebbeling will be calling the action live with Argus campus newspaper Sports Editor Mike St. Jean handling the colour commentary.
