The CIS No. 5 Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team earned a weekend road sweep with a 6-2 win over the Queen’s Gaels Saturday afternoon at the Memorial Arena in Kingston, Ontario.

Lakehead goes to 12-3-2 in OUA play (18-6-2 overall); while Queen’s goes to 6-10-2 in OUA play (8-13-2 overall).

Lakehead’s scoring came from Adam Sergerie with a pair while Dan Speer, Mark Soares, Kris Hogg, and Andrew Brown all added a goal and an assist apiece.  Drew Kivell added a pair of helpers for the Wolves.  Soares goal in the second period was one for the highlight reel as he pulled off a number of high speed fakes before beating Queen’s netminder Brady Morrison.

Queen’s goals came from Mike Bushby and David Chubb.

The Gaels had its chances in the game and outshot the Wolves 37-32 in the game; but Lakehead netminder Kyle Moir was sharp when he had to be; picking up this 8th win of the OUA regular season.  Brady Morrison took the loss for the Gaels (allowing five goals) while Mackenzie Ball took over in the third in relief for Queen’s and let in one goal.

Lakehead was 1-4 on the powerplay and their PK Unit played well (killing off 6 of 8 Queen’s man advantages); although both Queen’s goals were on the powerplay.  During the game, the Wolves PK squad killed off two four-minute opportunities that kept the Gaels from closing the gap.

Lakehead returns home next weekend for a two-game set against the Ryerson Rams.
