The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team earned a weekend road sweep with another hard fought 6-4 win over the York Lions Saturday afternoon in Toronto.  The win lifts Lakehead’s record to 8-2 in OUA play (9-5 overall) while York’s record goes to 3-3-3 in OUA action (4-8 overall).  Lakehead outshot York 33-25.

Lakehead again featured a balanced attack; led by Brock McPherson with a goal and three assists and Mark Soares with a goal and two assists.   Drew Kivell and Dan Speer had a goal and an assist each.  Brad Priestlay, and Jordan C. Smith notched singles for Lakehead.

Chris Whitley kept up his perfect OUA record in the Lakehead goal; the win lifting his record to 6-0.

York’s scoring came from Tyler Harrison, Matt Restoule, Matt Passfield, and Chris Jones.

The Lions were 2-9 on the powerplay while Lakehead was 1-3 with the man advantage.

The Wolves had a comfortable 4-1 lead after the first but the Lions played a strong second period and cut the lead to two.  Both teams traded a pair of goals in the third to get the final result; with the Lions never getting within two goals of the Wolves after early in the first period.

Lakehead heads back home to Thunder Bay where they will host the UOIT Ridgebacks in their first-ever meeting next weekend at the Fort William Gardens.
