|Thunderwolves host Concordia this weekend|
|John Payetta - Tuesday, October 03, 2017|
The Lakehead Thunderwolves will remain at home for the second weekend in a row when they welcome the Concordia Stingers for a pair of games at the Fort William Gardens, with the opening face-off set for 7:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday nights.
The Thunderwolves opened the season with a 3-0 shutout win over UOIT last Friday, but fell 3-1 in the Saturday rematch to split the weekend series with the Ridgebacks.
Concordia played only one game last weekend, a 7-2 home drubbing of RMC.
Of all the teams in the OUA, Lakehead has played Concordia the least with only six games between the two programs in 16 years. The Thunderwolves hold the advantage with a record of 4-2 in those six contests, but the Stingers won the two most recent games played in Montreal last October.
Strong in Goal
The trio of Devin Green, Nic Renyard and Justin McDonald give the Wolves enviable depth between the pipes. Renyard recorded a shutout in his Lakehead debut, and Green played well enough to garner the first star in last Saturday's game, just as Renyard did the night before.
After only one weekend in a Lakehead uniform, highly-touted freshmen Daniel Del Paggio and Josh Laframboise have both notched their first goals as a Thunderwolf.
Senior Brennen Dubchak and sophomore Patrick Murphy both picked up two points against UOIT.
About the Stingers
Concordia finished in second place in the OUA East last year with a regular-season record of 19-7-2, and scored the most goals (118) in the division.
The Stingers have lost some of the scoring punch from that squad, but forwards Phillipe Sanche and Scott Oke are offensive threats. Alexandre Gosselin and Matthieu Desautels are the top returning defencemen.
Of the three goalies on the Concordia roster, only Marc-Antoine Turcotte has any OUA experience, having appeared in four games last season.
